Souls are probably the most important thing in the Soul Eater series, and the centerpiece of the plot. It is the essence of and a manifestation of each life form's personality, psyche and abilities. Souls can come in many different variations, differing in type and strength. Souls are important in the SRA( also known as Shibusen) as Meisters can only wield Weapons that are compatible with each other's souls. Souls can also change depending on a variety of factors, either becoming stronger, weaker, or transforming into something totally different.

The Soul Wavelength is the rhythm of one's soul. The wavelength carries the true characteristics of a person's soul. Some people, like Maka and Dr. Stein for example, are able to see people's souls and sense their Soul Wavelengths through the ability of Soul Perception. Most meisters have the Soul Perception ability; some have a stronger ability than others. Some are able to use their own souls offensively, controlling their Soul Wavelength without a demon weapon.
A Soul Wavelength is what allows meisters and weapons to team up. When individuals share compatible Soul Wavelengths, they are able to form powerful bonds. Those whose wavelengths are not compatible, can literally become toxic to one-another. Wavelengths can be compatible with many individuals, allowing for meister-weapon teams.

The true power of Weapon and Meister can be exerted by them resonating their souls together, a Soul Resonance, which is a process of the Meister sending his/her Soul Wavelength into the Weapon, which sends back the Wavevlength to the Meister. This process is repeated until a single, even greater, Soul Wavelength is made, which enables them to use powerful attacks. A Soul Resonance is difficult to create and even more difficult to sustain, but it is the ultimate display of the power a Meister/Weapon team can achieve.General:
